Group project with Franziska, Isabel, Lennart and Amelia.
A typeface based on the very unique dialect of Germany's beautiful capital, Berlin.
Goal of this project was to create a typeface for one of the many german-speaking dialects.
We chose the dialect "berlinisch/berlinerisch" for its sloppiness but also warm hearted sound and for its people who "first speak before they think".
Besides creating the typeface, we also had to design several postcards, an animation serving as kind of ad/presentation featuring the specialties of the letters and as always of course a long and detailed documentation of the design process featuring every decision and step we made.
As little aid, we didn't have to design the typeface from scratch but could use another typeface as starting point.
We decided to choose the Avenir Next as such.
Even the famous Universität der Künste Berlin saw our typeface and approved, even enjoyed it very much!
Ultimately we named the typeface "Bärlin" for the fact that Berlin already sounds a lot like Bärlin (in german pronounciation) and because it has a bear on its flag and as its coat animal.
